CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) β€” Two historically black North Carolina colleges are squaring off in a football game that has a history of its own.

Livingstone College travels to Charlotte to face Johnson C. Smith University on Saturday in the sixth annual Commemorative Classic game.

The game marks the regular season finale for the two members of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

On Dec. 27, 1892, Livingstone played host to what was known then as Biddle Memorial Institute in the snow on the front lawn of the school in Salisbury.

Johnson C. Smith (2-7) has won the last five games in the classic. Livingstone (5-4) is trying to keep its record above .500.
