Syracuse quarterback Rex Culpepper throws first touchdown since being diagnosed with cancer in 2018

After 100 hours of chemotherapy and more than two years of waiting, Rex Culpepper found the end zone Saturday.

The Syracuse quarterback threw for his first touchdown since he was diagnosed with testicular cancer in March 2018 off a spectacular 69-yard scoring play against Pittsburgh.

Culpepper - in the shotgun with an empty backfield β€” dropped a dime to receiver Taj Harris outside the numbers near the 35-yard line and the junior wideout took it from there. Harris proceeded to break two tackles to cap off the big play and give the Orange a 10-7 lead in the second quarter.

Culpepper reacted to the scoring playing with child-like joy as he celebrated with his teammates as his long journey had finally come full circle.

It's been a long road for Culpepper who appeared in just two games in 2019. The redshirt senior returned to the field after his three-month battle with cancer when the disease had spread to his lymph nodes in his abdomen.

Unfortunately, Pittsburgh spoiled some of the good feelings with a 21-10 defeat of the Orange.
