All-ACC cornerback Derion Kendrick no longer on Clemson football team

Cornerback Derion Kendrick is no longer a member of the Clemson football team, a Clemson spokesperson confirmed Sunday morning.

The senior and former five-star recruit is expected to enter the transfer portal.

Kendrick missed multiple games due to disciplinary issues in his three seasons in the program, including last season, when he was held out of the Tigers’ game against Pitt.

“Some people might say he’s in the doghouse — I like to say he’s in the love shack,” Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said at the time.

Kendrick started eight of Clemson’s 12 games last season, but was a first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection after recording 20 tackles, including one for lost yardage, breaking up six passes, intercepting a pass, and recovering a fumble that he returned 66 yards for a touchdown.

For his career, which began with him playing wide receiver as a freshman before moving to the defensive secondary prior to his sophomore year, Kendrick played in 39 games and made 23 starts.

He had 15 receptions for 210 yards as a wide receiver and also had 15 career kickoff returns for an average of 23.3 yards.
