Delta State honors Margaret Wade

CLEVELAND, Miss. (AP) β€” Delta State University will unveil a statute of the late Margaret Wade, who led the women's basketball team to three consecutive AIAW National Championships from 1974-75 through 1976-77.

The ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m. Nov. 14 on the West Plaza of Kent Wyatt Hall.

Speakers will include Delta State President Bill LaForge and former presidents Kent Wyatt and Aubrey Lucas and former WNBA head coach Van Chancellor.

Wade was head coach of the Lady Statesmen from 1973-79 with a career record of 157-23.

The Wade Trophy is presented annually to the top collegiate women's basketball player. Wade was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1985 and the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 1999.

Wade died in 1995 at the age of 82.
