South Carolina still unanimous No. 1 in USA TODAY Sports women's college basketball poll

The top five teams remain unchanged in the USA TODAY Sports WBCA women’s basketball poll, though that hardly means it was an uneventful week in the sport.

South Carolina remains the unanimous No. 1 choice. The Gamecocks had a couple of tune-up during the week but have an upcoming date with No. 7 Maryland that should pose more of a test.

South Carolina forward Laeticia Amihere (15) drives to the hoop against Kansas State guard Jaelyn Glenn (3) during the first half Friday, Dec. 3, 2021, in Columbia, S.C.

Connecticut retains the No. 2 spot by a mere four poll points ahead of No. 3 North Carolina State. The Huskies, however, will be without standout guard Paige Bueckers for a couple of months due to a fluke injury in the closing minutes of UConn’s win against No. 23 Notre Dame on Sunday.

Stanford and Louisville continue to round out the top five. Baylor climbs to No. 6 while Indiana slips a couple of places to No. 8 after a loss to N.C. State. Tennessee and Arizona, both still unscathed, complete the top 10 as Michigan drops a couple of places to No. 11 after falling at Louisville.

North Carolina, off to an 8-0 start, makes its season debut in the poll at No. 24. Florida Gulf Coast falls out after a loss to Princeton.
