Desperate Jets to sign troubled cornerback, agent says

Cornerback Aaron Berry will be signed by the Jets, his agent says.

  • Jets are coming off a 34-0 loss to the San Francisco 49ers
  • Berry was accused of pointing a gun at three people in offseason

The Jets, in need of help at cornerback after the loss of Darrelle Revis last week, will sign former Detroit Lions cornerback Aaron Berry, according to Berry's agent Audie Attar.

The team will give Berry a two-year deal, Attar told USA TODAY Sports via text Monday morning.

Berry, a former undrafted free agent, was working his way into a starting role with Detroit this offseason when a pair of arrests this summer led to his release.

Berry, 24, was accused of pointing a gun at three people in a parking lot in Harrisburg, Pa. He was also arrested under suspicion of DUI and announced he would enter the league's substance-abuse program.

Berry served a three-game suspension and was reinstated by the NFL last week. He visited the Jets and the Miami Dolphins.

The Jets, coming off a 34-0 drubbing at home to the San Francisco 49ers, need all the help they can get at this point. They're hoping Berry can provide some kind of lift in a secondary and a defense reeling after the ACL injury to Revis, arguably the best defensive player in the league.
