New Jet Jason Hill to join team he called 'overhyped'

Wide receiver Jason Hill, shown catching a pass with the Jacksonville Jaguars last season, is expected to sign with the Jets.

  • Team doesn't appear interested in available veterans Burress, Johnson or Owens
  • Hill had 25 catches for Jaguars last season, then was cut Broncos this summer

There could be some awkward introductions in the Jets locker room when their new free agent signing joins the team.

With Santonio Holmes done for the season with a foot injury, the New York Jets signed a wide receiver Wednesday. It's not Plaxico Burress, Chad Johnson or Terrell Owens. It's Jason Hill.

Hill, formerly of the Jacksonville Jaguars and San Francisco 49ers, was cut by the Denver Broncos at the end of training camp this year.

Hill is the Jaguars player who called the Jets "overhyped" in an interview with the Florida Times-Union prior to last season's Week 2 matchup, which the Jets won 32-3. He specifically made the mistake of calling out star cornerback Darrelle Revis.

"Him personally, he's a good player, Pro Bowl player, I'm trying to make it to the Pro Bowl, too. This'll be a good game to put some notches on our belts too," Hill told the paper.

After Revis replied he didn't "even know who that dude is," Hill ended up missing the game due to a hip injury. He was cut in November after putting up 25 catches for 367 yards and three touchdowns with the Jaguars last season.

If the Jets hope to get their struggling offense going, they'll need Hill to make quite a memorable impression.
