Brandon Jacobs to be inactive vs. Bills
- Veteran trying to come back from knee injury
- Niners' running game, one of the best in the NFL, hasn't missed him
- Jacobs had declared himself ready to return
Despite his declaring himself ready to go last week, Brandon Jacobs will have to wait another week to make his debut with the San Francisco 49ers.
The veteran running back, signed as a this offseason after being cut by the New York Giants, will be inactive for Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills, according to a person informed of the team's plans for Jacobs. The person, who spoke to USA TODAY Sports on condition of anonymity because Jacobs was listed as questionable with a knee injury originally suffered in the preseason, said Jacobs should be ready to go next Sunday.
That would mean Jacobs' first regular-season game as a Niners RB will be against his former team, the Giants, in a rematch of this past season's NFC Championship game.
The 49ers haven't missed Jacobs' presence much so far. Frank Gore (326 yards) and Kendall Hunter (120 yards) have paced a running game that ranked third in the NFL with 167 yards per game heading into Sunday's games.
