NFL spokesman Greg Aiello confirmed Tagliabue has adjourned the hearings and has not yet set a new date, though Aiello did not specify a reason for the postponement. Tagliabue was to hear the appeals in Washington D.C., which is expected to be in the path of Hurricane Sandy Sunday through Tuesday.

In an email to USA TODAY Sports on Friday, Tagliabue wrote he was in China and expected to return Saturday.

The NFL has answered the NFL Players Association's motion filed in a New Orleans court to have Tagliabue recused after he was appointed as arbitrator by current commissioner Roger Goodell. The union has until noon Monday to answer the league.
