  • Redskins head coach says his passport and $3,700 in cash were stolen
  • Items were reportedly swiped from a locker in Pittsburgh on Oct. 28
  • Newspaper report says Shanahan found the items; team says that's not true

The Washington Redskins are disputing a report out of Pittsburgh that coach Mike Shanahan raised a stink over lost property assumed stolen, only to find the items in another bag.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported the coach filed a police report when $3,700 in cash and his passport were missing from a briefcase he left in an open locker during a 27-12 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers Oct. 28. Then, according to the newspaper, Shanahan withdrew the report the next day when the property was located in another bag.

The team says that's not so, in a statement issued early Thursday morning.

"Mike Shanahan did have money and a passport stolen out of his locker room in Pittsburgh," the statement read. "The Pittsburgh Police insisted on filing a police report because of the missing passport. There is an ongoing investigation. The missing property was not stowed in another bag as reported."
