Redskins DB Cedric Griffin suspended

Robert Klemko, USA TODAY Sports
Washington Redskins defensive back Cedric Griffin (20) breaks up a pass intended for New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks (88) during the first half of the game at FedEx Field.

The Washington Redskins' secondary was already a skeleton crew.

But it took two more hits Tuesday: Reserve cornerback Cedric Griffin has been suspended for four games β€” the rest of the regular season β€” after a violation of the NFL's performance-enhancing drug policy. And starting corner DeAngelo Hall was on crutches with an ankle injury.

Hall expects to play Sunday vs. the Baltimore Ravens, and Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said there were no significant injuries suffered in a victory vs. the New York Giants.

Griffin, used typically as a slot corner, has 30 tackles in nine games this season, and could be replaced by rookie Richard Crawford.

The Redskins defense lost starting safety Brandon Meriweather Nov. 18 to a torn ACL and has been without key rushers Adam Carriker and Brian Orakpo for the bulk of the season.
