CINCINNATI -- Jerry Brown, the Dallas Cowboys practice squad linebacker who died in the single-car accident in Irving, Texas early Saturday, was honored with a moment of silence at Paul Brown Stadium before the Cowboys face the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

Brown, 25, was the passenger in the car driven by his close friend, defensive tackle Josh Brent, who was also his college teammate at Illinois and roommate.

The Cowboys won't wear a patch on their uniform or any other outward expression, but acknowledged the loss during a chapel service at the team's hotel on Saturday night.

"Very somber," Calvin Hill, the Cowboys consultant who spearheads the team's support services, said before the game. "This has been a shock."

Jacqueline Stephens, the club's mental health specialist, accompanied the team to Cincinnati. Stephens and at least two other counselors met with players on Saturday.

"Guys are processing this," Hill said.

Brent, jailed on intoxication manslaughter charges, was expected to start Sunday's game at nose tackle as a replacement for injured starter Jay Ratliff. Instead, Sean Lissemore will start. Bond for Brent was set Sunday morning at $500,000.
