"This guy" probably won't be coaching anytime soon.

Jon Gruden has agreed to an extension with ESPN through 2021, keeping him in the booth as a broadcaster and potentially out of any potential coaching searches, the network announced during Monday Night Football.

"Jon has been a game-changer for ESPN and for Monday Night Football, entertaining and engaging fans with his vast knowledge of the game and his dynamic personality," said John Wildhack, ESPN executive vice president, programming and production, in a news release. "Jon has quickly become one of the premier analysts in all of sports and we're thrilled he's made this long-term commitment. We look forward to having him as part of our NFL presentation for many years to come."

Gruden has been an annual fixture in coaching rumors at both the professional and NFL level. He had been mentioned for a potential reunion for the Oakland Raiders, the team he led from 1998-2001, but the agreement effectively removes him from the search.

Gruden compiled a 100-85 record in 11 years as a head coach with the Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He won Super Bowl XXXVII in 2002 with the Buccaneers, defeating his former team in the first season after he was traded to Tampa Bay.

Since joining ESPN in 2009, Gruden has become a popular figure in the network's football coverage, both in his Monday Night Football role and elsewhere.

"Being a part of Monday Night Football alongside our ESPN crew is a dream job," Gruden said in ESPN's release. "I love calling big prime-time games every week and spending time with the best players and coaches on the planet, while also finding new ways to teach and talk about football year round. There's no place I'd rather be."
