Cierre Wood, a former NFL and Notre Dame running back, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the death of his girlfriendā€™s daughter, KVVU-TV in Las Vegas reported Thursday. Wood, 28, and Amy Taylor, 25, were already facing charges of first-degree child abuse/neglect.

Wood saw very limited action from 2013-2015 as a member of the Houston Texans, New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills. He had five carries for 12 yards in regular-season action and spent much of his time on practice squads. He most recently played in the Canadian Football League.

Las Vegas police said that Taylorā€™s daughter died Tuesday night. The Clark County Coronerā€™s Office confirmed the death of 5-year-old Laā€™Ravah Davis at Summerlin Hospital.

Wood played at Notre Dame from 2010-2013, rushing for 2,447 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also made 52 catches for 384 yards and two touchdowns. His best season was 2011, when he rushed for 1,102 yards and nine touchdowns.

He was an undrafted free-agent signing by the Texans after deciding to forgo his senior season at Notre Dame to enter the 2013 NFL draft.
