Eric Reid calls NFL's racial justice efforts 'half-hearted,' use of Colin Kaepernick's image 'diabolical'

Free agent safety Eric Reid has supported Colin Kaepernick before. In 2016, he became one of the quarterback's first teammates to join him in kneeling during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial injustice. 

Reid went to bat for Kaepernick again Monday, blasting commissioner Roger Goodell for being opportunistic and saying that the league using footage of Kaepernick protesting during the playing of "Lift Every Voice and Sing" is "diabolical." 

"What the @NFL is doing is half-hearted at best," Reid tweeted, before turning his attention to Goodell. "@nflcommish has gotten comfortable saying he 'was wrong' as if his mere acknowledgement reconciles his admitted wrongdoing. He hasn’t even called Colin to apologize, let alone reconcile, proving this is only PR for the current business climate.

"As such, Roger Goodell uses video of Colin courageously kneeling to legitimize their disingenuous PR while simultaneously perpetuating systemic oppression, that the video he’s using fights against, by continuing to rob Colin of his career. It’s diabolical."

In June, Goodell apologized for not listening to players and offering more encouragement to express their beliefs. 

Reid's tweets came a day after Kaepernick offered his support of Reid on social media, saying the NFL was "blackballing" his former teammate.

"While the NFL runs propaganda about how they care about Black Life, they are still actively blackballing Eric Reid (@E_Reid35) for fighting for the Black community," Kaepernick tweeted Sunday afternoon. "Eric set 2 franchise records last year, and is one of the best defensive players in the league."

Reid, 28, recorded 97 solo tackles (130 total), but he was released in March following a coaching change.
