New Orleans Saints

Saints to be without entire RB group due to close contact with Alvin Kamara

The New Orleans Saints are in a tough spot for Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers.

As a result of star Alvin Kamara's positive COVID-19 test, his fellow backs will also miss the game due to close contact with Kamara that put them at high risk.

The team announced its roster moves late Saturday afternoon. Running backs Latavius Murray and Dwayne Washington and FB Michael Burton were all added to the reserve/COVID-19 list. Running backs coach Joel Thomas will not travel or coach.

Ty Montgomery, who mostly plays receiver and is on special teams, will take over a running back role. Tony Jones will be moved up from the practice squad.

Fox Sports' Jay Glazer was first to report the news.

Kamara tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday before being placed on the team's reserve/COVID-19 list Friday. NFL rules state that players who come in contact with someone who tested positive must isolate for five days before they are able to return – even with a negative test.
