NFL coaching roundup: Jason Garrett in the mix for Chargers' vacancy

In search of their next head coach following the firing of Anthony Lynn, the Los Angeles Chargers have requested permission to interview a pair of offensive coordinators β€” with the New York Giants' Jason Garrett and the Buffalo Bills' Brian Daboll, according to two NFL Network reports on Monday night.

Garrett, who was fired as the coach of the Dallas Cowboys a year ago, compiled a record of 85-67 in more than nine seasons. In the postseason, the Cowboys were 2-3.

The Giants ranked 31 out of 32 teams in yards per game on offense (299.6) and points per game (17.5).

Daboll, who has been Buffalo's OC for the past three seasons, has helped the Bills rank second in yards (396.4) and points per game (31.3).

Texans announce completed interviews, reportedly will interview Caserio

The Houston Texans have reportedly gone after a candidate who nearly got them in trouble last time they asked about him.

According to the Houston Chronicle, New England Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio, whom the team pursued in 2019 after it fired Brian Gaine, is in town Tuesday to interview for the open general manager position. The Patriots filed a tampering claim in 2019 after a former Patriots character coach was spotted talking to Caserio for a lengthy period during a New England Super Bowl championship ring ceremony. Houston later announced it would end its pursuit of Caserio and the Patriots dropped the tampering charge.

Houston also announced Tuesday that they completed a couple of other interviews, one for their head coaching vacancy and the other for general manager.

The team interviewed Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator and play caller Joe Brady, who helped lead LSU's offense in 2019, the year quarterback Joe Burrow won the Heisman, which led to his eventually becoming the top pick in the NFL draft.

The Texans also announced that they completed an interview with Steelers vice president of football and business administration Omar Khan.

Chiefs' Bienemy set to add another interview

Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy, one of the hottest candidates for the open head coaching vacancies in the NFL is set to add another interview, according to a report.

MORE: Eric Bieniemy is ready to be a head coach. Which NFL team will finally take him?

The Jacksonville Jaguars are in the process of scheduling an interview with Bienemy, according to Josina Anderson. Because the Chiefs are enjoying their first-round bye during the wild card round of the playoffs, Bienemy can take the interview this week.

Once Kansas City returns for the divisional round next week, however, his duties as coordinator will take precedence over any potential head coaching interview and the Jaguars would have to wait either until the Chiefs are eliminated, or if they get another bye, which would come before the Super Bowl.

Teams showing interest in Panthers OC

Carolina Panthers OC Joe Brady, a 31-year-old up-and-coming coach credited for the development of Bengals quarterback Joe Borrow, has received interview requests from the Atlanta Falcons, the Houston Texans, and Los Angeles Chargers for their head coaching position, according to NFL Network

Brady was an offensive assistant with the New Orleans Saints in 2017-18 before helping the undefeated LSU Tigers in 2019 as the team's passing game coordinator en route to a national championship.

The Panthers ranked 21st in yards per game and 24th in points scored.
