Kansas City plans Chiefs' Super Bowl victory parade and rally for Wednesday

The Kansas City Chiefs’ 31-20 victory in Super Bowl LIV over the San Francisco 49ers wasn’t even an hour old by the time plans for the victory parade were being finalized.

The Kansas City Sports Commission and Foundation announced that the parade is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. CT on Feb. 5. After the parade, there will be a victory rally at Union Station in downtown Kansas City. The rally is expected to start at 1:30 p.m., and the nearby National World War I Museum and Memorial will provide vantage points on its north lawn.

“For the first time in 50 years, our Kansas City Chiefs are bringing home the Vince Lombardi trophy, and we’re all excited to celebrate with our players and fans,” Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas said in the release.

The rally at Union Station is the same site where the Kansas City Royals celebrated their 2015 World Series championship. According to The Kansas City Star, between 500,000 and 800,000 people were estimated to have attended the Royals' parade and rally.

The Chiefs erased a 10-point deficit in the second half, thanks to 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who completed 26-of-42 passes for 286 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions, won the game’s Most Valuable Player Award.
