The NFL hosted its first draft in Nashville, Tennessee and the draftā€™s first overall selection fittingly launched a run of historic ā€œfirsts.ā€

Sooners product Kyler Murray became the first player in NFL history to be selected in the first round of each the Major League Baseball and NFL draft. Murray was drafted top 10 in each league, the Oakland Aā€™s selecting him ninth in 2018 before the Arizona Cardinals selected him first overall on Thursday night.

ā€œIt was definitely one of the toughest decisions Iā€™ve had to make,ā€ Murray said on the draft broadcast of choosing football over baseball. ā€œI believe Iā€™m in the right place.ā€

Murray also paired with Baker Mayfield to mark the first time a school produced consecutive quarterbacks selected first overall. Mayfield and Murray won consecutive Heisman trophies ahead of their drafts, too.

(Yes, incoming Sooners QB Jalen Hurts noticed.)

And the firsts continued.

Nick Bosa (Ohio State) is selected as the number two overall pick to the San Francisco 49ers during the 2019 NFL Draft.

At Pick 2, the 49ers selected Ohio State defensive end Nick Bosa. He joined brother Joey (Chargers 2016 pick at third overall) and father John (Dolphins 1987 pick at 16th overall) to form just the second set of father-son-son to merit a trio of first-round selections. The first? The Mannings, of course. They were all quarterbacks. The Bosa family chases quarterbacks.

At Pick 4, Clemson defensive end Clelin Ferrell, the Raidersā€™ first selection, began the defending national championsā€™ run to being the first school with three defensive linemen selected in the first round of a draft, according to an NFL release. Defensive tackle Christian Wilkins followed suit with the Dolphins at 13, and soon, Dexter Lawrence to the Giants at 17. (N.C. State in 2006 had two linemen and an outside linebacker taken.)

At Pick 5, the Buccaneers drafted LSU inside linebacker Devin White. That paved the way for Michigan inside linebacker Devin Bush, selected by the Steelers with the 10th pick, to ensure not one but two Devins were off the board in the top 10. This also became the first time since 1997 with four defensive players chosen in the top five picks.

At Pick 8, the Lions drafted Iowa tight end T.J. Hockenson to bolster their blocking and receiving corps. He and Noah Fant (Broncos, 20) became the first tight end teammates to be selected in the same first round.

At Pick 15, when the Redskins selected quarterback Dwayne Haskins, Ohio State moved into a tie with USC for most first-round picks of all-time. USC entered the night with 81, Ohio State catching the Pac-12 program after the Bosa and Haskins selections.

And to watch the slew of records? At the start draft, the Nashville Tennessean reported that 100,000 people had gathered, according to local police. By the end of the night, though, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said there were 200,000 people on Nashvilleā€™s iconic Broadway.
