Packers' Jon Runyan Jr. shoots down conspiracy theories regarding Mike Evans' suspension

Green Bay Packers offensive lineman Jon Runyan Jr., who happens to be the son of the league's vice president of rules and policy administration, says his father "was just doing his job," when it comes to the one-game suspension of Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans. 

"He's been doing that job for over a half-decade now," Runyan Jr. said Wednesday. "It just so happened that we're playing the Buccaneers this week. Everybody's trying to make it that conspiracy theory, which it's not."

Evans was suspended on Monday for shoving New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore during the Buccaneers' 20-10 victory over the Saints on Sunday. Evans was ejected in the fourth corner during a small brawl between players. 

The decision to suspend Evans was upheld during a hearing Wednesday between the league and the NFL Players Association.

"My dad's doing his job," Runyan Jr. said. "(It was a) lapse in judgment on the field. Sometimes, that stuff happens. There's a whole conspiracy theory going down, and it's not true. That's just how it goes. You can't be running 15 yards trying to head-hunt somebody when the play's over. It is funny, though, how stuff works out sometimes."

Runyan Sr. played in the NFL for 14 seasons.
