Patriots donate $25,000 to Newtown, Conn.

USATODAY
Robert Kraft has more than a geographical connection to Newtown, Conn.

The tragedy in Newtown, Conn., has had a profound effect across the nation, not to mention the NFL.

But it's been especially difficult for the New England Patriots, who are based about 150 miles east of Sandy Hook Elementary School, where more than two dozen people (mostly children) were gunned down Friday. Patriots owner Robert Kraft also possesses the Rand-Whitney corrugated box plant in Newtown.

The Patriots, who are commemorating the victims by wearing a helmet decal during tonight's game against the San Francisco 49ers, will also donate $25,000 to Newtown.

"The future of the school and how it moves forward is important, the town is important," Kraft said Sunday, per NFL Network's Albert Breer.

"It's not for us to make the decision on what to do with the money. But we're gonna help."
