Assault charges against Raiders' Rolando McClain dismissed

• Accuser no longer wanted to pursue charges against former Crimson Tide star
• Judge had convicted McClain of third-degree assault, menacing, reckless endangerment and discharging a firearm
• Eighth overall pick of 2010 draft has had role with Raiders reduced this season

DECATUR, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama judge has dismissed charges against Oakland Raiders linebacker Rolando McClain.

Court documents show that Morgan County Circuit Judge Glenn Thompson dismissed the charges this month after McClain's accuser told prosecutors he no longer wanted to pursue the case.

Decatur Municipal Judge Bill Cook convicted McClain in May of third-degree assault, menacing, reckless endangerment and discharging a firearm in the city limits. Cook sentenced McClain to 180 days in jail for allegedly threatening to kill a man and firing a gun next to his head.

McClain's lawyer, Harvey Steinberg, appealed.

McClain later apologized for bringing bad publicity to the team.

McClain was the eighth overall pick in the 2010 draft after helping lead Alabama to a national title. He won the Butkus Award as the nation's top linebacker.
