Sean McVay thinks NFL's face covering warning directed at him: 'I will do better'

On Monday, the NFL sent a league-wide memo threatening discipline for those who do not adhere to the mandatory face-covering guidelines. 

While some coaches were vigilant in their mask-wearing efforts (or a face shield, if you're Andy Reid), others were not as compliant. Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay fell into the latter category, as his mask rested on his chin and did not cover his nose or mouth. 

"I figured that memo was directed at me," McVay told reporters Monday. 

"I will do better," he added.

NFL protocols state all individuals with bench access during games, aside from players, must wear face coverings that cover the nose and mouth as a precaution to COVID-19.

Monday's memo from NFL executive vice president of football operations Troy Vincent said, according to a copy obtained by ESPN: "failure to adhere to this requirement will result in accountability measures being imposed against offending individuals and/or clubs. The face covering must be worn as designed so that it securely fits across the wearer's nose and mouth to prevent the transmission of the virus."

The Rams beat the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football, 20-17. 

"I was definitely one of the main culprits of not following what the league wants," McVay said. "I will definitely be aware of that and do better."
