LANDOVER, Md. β€” Every Washington Redskins fan's greatest fear played out during a scary third-quarter play when rookie sensation Robert Griffin III got rocked and dazed by a shoulder-to-helmet hit from Atlanta Falcons linebacker Sean Weatherspoon. Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said Griffin had a "mild concussion" after the game.

RGIII tweeted Sunday evening: "Thank you for all the prayers & support I'm ok and I think after all the testing I will play next week."

On third-and-goal from the Falcons' 5-yard line, RGIII took off on a scramble around the right corner. As he neared the sideline, he got low but not low enough. Weatherspoon hit the quarterback in the head with his right shoulder before both went out of bounds.

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III is tackled by Atlanta Falcons defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux (95) and Falcons outside linebacker Sean Weatherspoon (56) in the third quarter at FedEx Field. Griffin was injured on the play and left the field.

Griffin stayed down for a few seconds before he was helped to his feet by the team's medical staff and wobbled to the bench, where he was tended to by five Redskins medical staffers and appeared to receive stitches on his chin.

With fellow rookie quarterback Kirk Cousins warming up, Griffin III was taken to the locker room for further evaluation after Billy Cundifff's 23-yard field goal put Washington up 10-7. RGIII briefly emerged from the tunnel but was then escorted back inside.

Cousins threw a 77-yard TD pass to Santana Moss after relieving Griffin.
