ASHBURN, Va. β€” The backup quarterbacks to Robert Griffin III say they believe he's doing fine and probably will not miss next weekend's game vs. Minnesota.

Kirk Cousins, Griffin's fellow rookie who spelled the starter after he suffered what the team called a "mild concussion" during the Washington Redskins' 24-17 loss to Atlanta, said he spoke with Griffin on Monday morning.

"He seems fine," Cousins said. "He seems in good spirits, he appears to be doing well."

Third-string passer Rex Grossman said he did not speak with Griffin on Monday but expected him to play.

"He seems like he was with it after the game, and he'll fight through this and probably play," Grossman said. "I don't know."

Head coach Mike Shanahan was expected to give an update on Griffin's status Monday afternoon.

Griffin was held out following the hit after not being able to recall the score of the game or the current quarter.

The team told members of the media Griffin was "shaken up" on the play, and later clarified he had suffered a concussion. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello says the league is looking into whether the Redskins properly reported the injury to the news media.

Cousins said he would be ready to play in the event Griffin could not.

"I haven't been told anything and it really wouldn't change my approach whether I found out Sunday morning or right when I'm done talking with you," he said. "We'll see what happens but obviously I hope he gets back quickly and he's healthy."
