It's been a boom year for NFL kickers besides Washington's Billy Cundiff, and a nightmarish 2012 as a member of the Redskins is officially over for the former pro bowler. The team confirmed Tuesday that Cundiff was released.

Coach Mike Shanahan hosted several kickers for tryouts Tuesday and settled on UCLA product and former Tampa Bay Bucs player Kai Forbath, as the kicker tweeted the news on Tuesday. The Redskins confirmed the signing.

"Couldn't be more excited to join Redskins nation! #HTTR" he tweeted.

Cundiff was 7-for-12 in five games after being signed by the Redskins following his release by the Ravens.

Cundiff has gone 3-for-8 including a missed 31-yarder in Sunday's loss since a perfect season opener.

Shanahan said he would choose a new kicker "if we feel very good about somebody that's out there who we think gives us a better chance to win."
