Robert Griffin III cleared for Redskins' game vs. Eagles

PHILADELPHIA -- RGIII is officially a go.

As expected, phenomenal Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III has been cleared by team doctors to return to the lineup for Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Redskins coach Mike Shanahan confirmed Griffin's status to USA TODAY Sports on Saturday night.

Griffin, who missed last Sunday's victory at the Cleveland Browns due to a sprained lateral collateral ligament in his right knee, fully practiced with the first team all week and was listed as "probable" on Friday's injury report.

Yet Shanahan said he would wait until Griffin received final medical clearance before declaring that he would start against the Eagles. With the latest checkup, it's apparent that there were no setbacks. Earlier in the week, Shanahan expressed concern that there could be significant swelling as Griffin returned to practices.

The Redskins (8-6) can win the NFC East title by winning their final two games, against the Eagles and a week later at home against the Dallas Cowboys.
