Reports: Bruce Allen will no longer be involved in football operations for Washington Redskins

USA TODAY Sports

Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder appears on the verge of finally making a move with embattled team president Bruce Allen after 10 years of mostly on-field futility.

By what has become known as Black Monday, the day after the regular season, Allen is expected to be stripped of his duties involving the football side of the franchise, according to reports by NBC Sports Washington and The Washington Post.

The Redskins (3-12) close the season Sunday in Dallas.

In a decade under Allen, who oversaw head coach hiring and player-acquisition decisions for most of that period, the Redskins lost 96 games with no playoff wins.

The Redskins are trying to hire a new coach after Jay Gruden was fired in October. The Post reported that former Panthers coach Ron Rivera, former Bengals coach Marvin Lewis and Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy are among those being considered.

It is likely, according to the reports, that Allen would keep his role on the business side. He was hired on Dec. 17, 2009 as Executive Vice President/General Manager. The Redskins are hoping to build a new stadium, and Allen has been involved in that effort.

His father, George, was a former Redskins head coach who took the team to its first Super Bowl.
