SEATTLE – It’s safe to say Richard Sherman wasn’t surprised the Seattle Seahawks’ talented, experienced defense got the better of Carson Wentz on Sunday, even if the Philadelphia Eagles’ rookie quarterback didn’t show outward signs of being rattled.

“He was poised. He wasn’t shook. He’s a rook. That’s what he is,” Sherman, the Seahawks’ star cornerback, said after they finished off a 26-15 win.

“He's been kind of getting an easy walk through this league and then he ran into some people that we've been there before. We've seen your looks. We know your plays. So, he’s going to learn from it and he’s going to work hard and come back.”

Wentz’s final passing line – 23-of-45 for 218 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions and a meager 61.2 rating – looked a lot worse before a couple late drives, with the Eagles already doomed in a 26-7 hole. (An illegal formation penalty that wiped out a 57-yard TD on a screen pass to tight end Zach Ertz didn’t help.)

The No. 2 overall draft pick primarily worked the middle of the field in the short passing game, as the Seahawks expected. He averaged just 4.8 yards a pass.

But Wentz paid for a couple deep shots: one that safety Kam Chancellor intercepted just before halftime and another picked off by Sherman in the third quarter, setting up a Seattle touchdown that broke open the game.

“You’re not going to win a ballgame throwing slants the whole game. Eventually, you’re going to make a mistake,” Sherman said. “… We don’t worry about things like that. We knew eventually he had to take his shot and we were happy to be there. We should’ve got another one.”

Wentz also fumbled on a sack deep in his own territory, but the Eagles recovered.
