Marshawn Lynch headed to Seattle to discuss reunion with injury-riddled Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks have lost their top three running backs due to injury this season. Two of those injuries came in Sunday’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

So, as the team gears up for a playoff run, it could be looking to a familiar face in the meantime.

Former running back Marshawn Lynch, who has been out of the NFL this season, is traveling to Seattle to discuss the possibility of making a comeback with the Seahawks, coach Pete Carroll confirmed Monday.

“We’re going to give him a really good chance to come back and play for us," Carroll told reporters.

Lynch, 33, played for the Seahawks from 2010-15 and was a prominent figure both in the locker room and on the field. He helped establish a physical rushing attack and was a key contributor on a 2014 Seattle team that won Super Bowl XLVIII against the Denver Broncos in a 43-8 rout.

In his six seasons in Seattle, Lynch ran the ball 1,457 times for 6,347 yards and 57 touchdowns. Lynch also played four seasons with the Bills and two with the Raiders.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll announced after Sunday’s 27-13 loss against Arizona that running backs Chris Carson (hip) would likely miss the rest of the year and C.J. Prosise (arm) would be out through the playoffs after the two sustained injuries in the game. Earlier this month, the team announced that running back Rashaad Penny would also miss the remainder of the year after he suffered a “significant” knee injury in a 28-12 loss against the Rams.

Making matters worse, Carroll said that Seahawks left tackle Duane Brown would undergo knee surgery, though the coach held out hope he could return for the playoffs

The Seahawks are 11-4 this season and currently are holding on to the fifth seed in the NFC. They’ve lost two of their last three games, however, and play the 12-3 San Francisco 49ers, the NFC’s No. 1 seed, for the NFC West title in the regular season-finale on Sunday.
