Seattle Seahawks part ways with offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer

Just three days after their season ended with a 30-20 wild-card loss to the Los Angeles Rams, the Seattle Seahawks have fired offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.

The team cited "philosophical differences" as the reason for Schottenheimer's departure in a tweet announcing the move Tuesday afternoon.

"Brian Schottenheimer is a fantastic person and coach and we thank him for the last three years," the team said.

Schottenheimer, 47, is the son of former NFL head coach Marty Schottenheimer. Before coming to Seattle, he served as offensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts in 2016 and 2017. He also has held the position with the University of Georgia (2015), the St. Louis Rams (2012-2014) and the New York Jets (2006-2011).

During Schottenheimer's three seasons directing the Seahawks offense, the team finished in the top 10 in scoring all three years. This season, Seattle finished eighth in scoring (28.7 points/game), but just 17th in total offense (369.5 yards/game).

Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson expressed his appreciation for Schottenheimer's mentorship.

"I'm grateful for how much you meant to me over the past three years," Wilson said. "God blessed me with you, we won a lot of games, threw a lot of touchdowns and had a blast in meetings and our bible studies. The best days are ahead for you."
