Houston Texans close facility Thursday after player tests positive for coronavirus

A Houston Texans player tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, prompting the team to close its facility Thursday and conduct all operations virtually.

The unnamed player entered immediate isolation and the team is conducting contact tracing to determine any high-risk teammates or staffers.

"We will follow the NFL’s intensive protocols and guidance regarding the team’s operations," the team said in a statement. "The health and safety of our team, as well as our entire staff, are of highest priority."

This isn't the first time coronavirus has caused the Texans to temporarily close down. The team shut its doors last Wednesday following a positive player test, and offensive lineman Max Scharping was subsequently placed on the COVID-19/reserve list. The Texans were on a bye then, but are slated to play the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

Elsewhere in the NFL, the Indianapolis Colts also closed its facility Thursday — but will still practice outdoors — after a positive test from a staff member. Both teams participating in Thursday Night Football, the Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers, will be missing key players at skill positions due to COVID-19 positive tests and contact tracing. That contest is still set to be played.
