Montreal Canadiens prospect Blake Geoffrion is out of intensive care and feeling well enough to provide an update on Twitter.

The Montreal Gazette reported that the Hamilton (Ontario) Bulldogs forward was moved to a regular hospital room on Sunday morning, less than 48 hours after he had surgery for a depressed skull fracture.

"Feeling better," Geoffrion, 24, tweeted Sunday evening while also announcing that Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt told him he had a special celebration planned in honor of his fellow University of Wisconsin alumnus if he got a sack Sunday night. Geoffrion won the Hobey Baker Award as college hockey's top player while at the school.

Geoffrion, the grandson of Canadiens legend Bernie "Boom Boom" Geoffrion and great-grandson of Howie Morenz, was hit hard by a hip check from Syracuse (N.Y.) Crunch defenseman Jean-Philippe Cote during the first period of Friday night's American Hockey League game. He went airborne and Cote's skate struck him in in the head as he hit the ice.

He was bleeding as skated off on his own power to the dressing room and was later taken to Montreal General hospital.

The Canadiens say Geoffrion is out indefinitely but is expected to make a full recovery.

Cote already had tweeted good wishes to Geoffrion on Saturday morning: "All my thoughts are going towards Blake Geoffrion. I really wish him a quick recovery."

News of Geoffrion's improvement was met with relief.

"So glad you're doing well! You're a quality guy and hoping you make a speedy recovery!" tweeted Chicago Blackhawks forward Jamal Mayers.

More than 170 people have wished Geoffrion well on the Bulldogs' Facebook page.
