The Detroit Red Wings have added a goalie.

Veteran journeyman goaltender Cam Talbot agreed to a two-year deal worth $2.5 million annually with the Red Wings on the first day of 2024 NHL free agency.

Talbot is an 11-year veteran with experience for seven different teams, including the Los Angeles Kings in the 2023-24 season. He appeared in 54 games last season, finishing with a 27-20-6 record and three shutouts. He had a .913 save percentage and allowed an average of 2.5 goals against per game, just below his career average of 2.63.

Talbot will be a solid option at goalie for the Wings, who still have two goalies, Alex Lyon and Ville Husso, on the NHL roster under contract for next season. Husso, the highest-paid goalie on the roster with a $4.75 million annual average on his contract, said he expects to be healthy for 2024-25 after only making 19 appearances last year due to injury and Lyon is set to make $900,000 next year. It remains to be seen if Talbot's signing affects the others' status.

Despite his age (he turns 37 on Friday), Wings fans were happy to add Talbot to strengthen the options in net on the roster next year at a reasonable price.
