Missy Franklin, Gabby Douglas shine in New York

NEW YORK -- As U.S. swimmer Missy Franklin sat in a room surrounded by the greatest female athletes, past and present, she was overcome by the moment.
"There was so much girl power in one room. It was amazing," Franklin said Wednesday at the Women's Sports Foundation's 33rd Annual Salute to Women in Sports awards.
From tennis greats Billie Jean King and Chris Evert to every U.S. female star of the London Olympics, Franklin, who won four gold medals in London, was in awe. Her whirlwind post-London schedule has continued.
In between classes at Regis Jesuit High School in Aurora, Colo., where she's a senior, Franklin recently filmed a cameo in the Vince Vaughn-Owen Wilson movie, The Internship.
"They are the funniest people I ever met in my life," she said. In the movie, Franklin played herself. Though she can't reveal her lines, that likely meant she smiled. A lot.
"Probably," Franklin said. With a smile.
Next she will film a cameo in the show, Pretty Little Liars. And she's closing in on her college decision after visiting the University of California-Berkley, Georgia and Texas. She plans to make her decision before Nov. 14, when her high school has scheduled its signing day for seniors.
Another standout London Olympian, gymnast Gabby Douglas also has been busy. Given the memoir that's due out before Christmas and the ongoing gymnasts tour, she has little time for anything else.
Douglas led the pledge of allegiance at the Democratic National Convention last month, so on Wednesday she was asked if she's following the presidential debates.
"I haven't been able to watch it," she said. "I'm only 16. I can't even vote."
However, Douglas won an impressive election of her own on Wednesday when she won Sportswoman of the Year for an individual athlete. U.S. soccer player Alex Morgan, whose team took the gold, won Sportswoman of the Year for a team athlete. Judo gold medalist Kayla Harrison was honored with the Wilma Rudolph Courage Award.
