Boston Mayor helps present bid for 2024 Olympics

AP

BOSTON (AP) β€” Boston Mayor Marty Walsh says the city "put on a strong show" in its bid for the 2024 Olympics.

The new mayor was with the city's delegation outside of San Francisco on Tuesday to present the bid to the U.S. Olympic Committee.

San Francisco, Washington and Los Angeles are also bidding for the 2024 Summer Games. The USOC said it will put one of the bids through to the International Olympic Committee. The IOC is expected to announce in 2017 where the games will go. Other possible bidders include Rome, Paris and either Hamburg or Berlin.

Walsh told The Associated Press he didn't get any indication from the USOC panel on which way they might go. He stressed that the city would contribute funding for infrastructure but not to build stadiums.

The group No Boston Olympics also showed up outside the closed-door meeting to voice its opposition to bringing the games to New England.
