Tokyo Olympics schedule: Biles will compete on balance beam as gymnastics event finals conclude
Simone Biles is competing for a medal on balance beam, the last women's event final of the Tokyo Olympics.
The four-time Olympic gold medalist withdrew from the all-around, vault, floor exercise and uneven bars competition after making an early exit from team finals. Biles has been battling the twisties since her vault during the team final when she under-rotated, a potentially life-threatening mistake. The U.S. earned a silver medal behind performances by Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles and Grace McCallum.
Heading into Tokyo, Biles was projected to sweep gold in all but uneven bars. Instead, Lee won gold in the all-around and bronze in the uneven bars. McKayla Skinner, who came to the Games as an individual competitor for the U.S., earned silver in vault.
In qualifiers, Biles finished seventh overall on beam with a score of 14.066. Lee came third overall with a score of 14.200 and will also compete for a chance at her fourth medal in Tokyo.
