Team USA uniforms for closing ceremony in Beijing unveiled by Ralph Lauren

The next time Jamie Anderson returns to her South Lake Tahoe, California home, she will open boxes of winter clothes from years past as many do around this time of year.

She's particularly looking for a belt embroidered with the Olympic rings she received at her first Winter Games, Sochi in 2014, when she won her first of two gold medals in slopestyle snowboarding.

With this week marking less than 100 days until the start of Beijing 2022, Anderson and the rest of Team USA are readying their wardrobes. On Thursday, hardly three months after the closing ceremony at the Tokyo Summer Games, Ralph Lauren unveiled the closing ceremony uniform, which places an emphasis on sustainability.

The fight to combat climate change starts with everyone, Anderson said, including companies trying to do better.

Jamie Anderson is a two-time Olympic gold medalist in slopestyle snowboarding.

"It's dope that they care and they're doing things to give back to the community," said Anderson, who will return to training on snow in Austria after spending some time this week in New York.

More recycled polyester was used to make the gloves and boots in the outfit. Ralph Lauren, a Team USA outfitter since 2008, also used Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) certified U.S grown wool. The company says it sources wool from RWS certified ranches and has pledged that it will use 100 percent RWS certified or recycled wool by 2025.

"We want quality over quantity in the long run," Anderson, an eight-time Winter X Games gold medalist, said.

All wardrobe items for the Beijing Games closing ceremony were manufactured in the United States. The uniform "represents a modern look that feels distinctly new and fresh," Ralph Lauren chief branding and innovation officer David Lauren said in a release.

"We are highly invested in scaling sustainability solutions that have the potential to significantly reduce our and the wider industry’s impact, and we are proud to have created thoughtful apparel for Team USA that embodies this mission," he said.

Anderson said a pair of jeans, with Team USA-branding on the side, that matches perfectly with her favorite belt is another one of the cooler items she's received from Olympics past, along with "steezy boots" and sweaters that have remained in her wardrobe.

When the former president of the International Ski Federation, the late Gian-Franco Kasper, denied the existence of climate change in 2019, Anderson was one of a few U.S. athletes to denounce his comments and donated her World Championship prize money to Protect Our Winters.

With a sponsor in Ralph Lauren, Anderson has an ally in protecting the globe.

"Hopefully that sets a trend for fashionable brands in the industry," she said.
