America draws with Toluca, retains Mexican lead

MEXICO CITY (AP) β€” America's Oribe Peralta scored his second goal from a corner two minutes before fulltime as America drew 2-2 with Toluca on Sunday to remain two points clear at the top of the Mexican league.

A Peralta tapped in the opener in the 18th minute before Pablo Velazquez equalized from the penalty spot eight minutes later. Velazquez struck again from close range in the 64th to give Toluca the lead until Peralta found the equalizer.

Relegation-threatened Chivas secured a 0-0 draw with Tigres, which moved into third place after the fifteen rounds

In other weekend games, Chiapas beat Monterrey 2-1, defending champion Leon drew 0-0 with Puebla, Atlas drew 1-1 with Tijuana, Queretaro beat bottom-of-the-league Morelia 2-0, Santos Laguna defeated Pachuca 2-1, Cruz Azul lost 2-0 to Pumas and Leones Negros secured a 1-0 win against Veracruz.

Bruno Pires scored in the final minute of play to give Chiapas the home victory against Monterrey in a game where both teams finished with ten players. Pires sent his free kick into the wall, before collecting the ball on the rebound to beat three opposition players and shoot through the legs of the Monterrey goalkeeper.

Tijuana's Dario Benedetto struck a powerful shot from outside of the area that slipped through Atlas goalkeeper Federco Vilar's hands in the 36th, before Martin Barragan netted an equalizer in the 81st to eliminate Tijuana from playoff contention.

Queretaro's hope of reaching the playoffs was kept alive with the victory against Morelia. Diego Escalante opened with a diving header in the 31st and Camilo Sanvezzo netted a penalty in the 56th.
