Vietnam beats Philippines 3-1 to reach semifinals

HANOI, Vietnam (AP) — Former champion Vietnam qualified for the semifinals of the Suzuki Cup on Friday by beating the Philippines 3-1.

Ngao Hoang Thinh, Vu Minh Tuan and Phama Thah Luong scored for the 2008 champions while substitute Paul Mulders pulled one back for the Philippines, which had already qualified with two straight wins.

In another Group A match, Indonesia beat Laos 5-1.

Ramdhani Lestaluhu scored twice for Indonesia while Evan Darmono, Zulham Zamrun and Ketsada Souksavanh added the others. Khampheng Sayavuttha scored for Laos, which finished with three losses in the four-team group.
