Adelaide moves provisionally into 1st place in A-League
MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) β Adelaide City moved provisionally into first place in the A-League on Friday with a 2-0 win over Melbourne City to begin the final regular-season round.
The away win left Adelaide with a two-point edge over Brisbane and four points ahead of Western Sydney, with City in fourth place.
Brisbane could move back into first place β and clinch the premiership β on Saturday when the Roar play in Melbourne against the Victory.
Isaias Sanchez gave Adelaide the lead in the fourth minute before Bruce Djite made it 2-0 two minutes into first-half added time.
The other two teams advancing to the six-team playoffs are Perth and the Victory. Perth could move ahead of Melbourne City and into fourth place with a win Sunday over Sydney FC.
