Egyptian soccer club Smouha fires Brazilian coach Vieira

CAIRO (AP) β€” Brazilian soccer coach Jorvan Vieira has been fired from his job at Egyptian club Smouha after supposedly making derogatory remarks about the team's chairman and Egypt during a telephone conversation.

Egyptian media Wednesday published a partial transcript of the Brazilian's purported comments, but did not say how or who leaked them.

According to the transcript, Vieira said: "I would like to leave this damn country as soon as possible." He then relayed details of an argument he had with Smouha chairman Farag Amer, whom he described as mad.

The 63-year-old Vieira led Iraq to its Asian Cup win in 2007 and last year took Cairo club Zamalek to its first league title in 10 years. Under Vieira, Smouha finished third last season.
