Five NFL Future Super Bowl Bets to Avoid

Ryan R. Bonini

NFL Future Odds around the Super Bowl are always an enjoyable - and potentially lucrative - offseason conversation. While it's common to want to throw money at the longest of odds just in case they pull a shocking season, it's important not to throw good money at bad bets.

Maybe that should become our motto here: Don't throw good money at bad bets. I like it.

What I don't like is putting money on these NFL future bets, courtesy of Westgate Las Vegas Race & Sports SuperBook.

Here are the five-worst NFL Future Super Bowl LIV bets as of March:

New York Giants - 80/1 - The Giants don't know what they're doing. They've gutted themselves of a lot of talent. I question if they have any strategy at all. WR Odell Beckham Jr. and DE Olivier Vernon were traded to the Cleveland Browns. S Landon Collins, arguably the best in the league, departed via the free-agent market to the Washington Redskins, a divisional foe. Oh, and Eli Manning is still supposed to be the team's quarterback this year. RB Saquon Barkley is amazing and all, but he cannot do it all on his own. Sorry G-men fans, but don't waste a single dollar on these odds.

NFL STATS CENTRAL: The latest NFL scores, schedules, odds, stats and more.

Green Bay Packers - 14/1 - Can we please stop trying to make the Green Bay Packers as a Super Bowl winner a thing again? Sure, QB Aaron Rodgers is great. But, he's had trouble staying on the field and the offense around him has regressed. Plus, they've got a new, first-year head coach. Defensively they've made some improvements on D, but holes remain and they play in an improving division. Bet on this one? Not today, thanks.

Jacksonville Jaguars - 40/1 - Everyone was all about the Jaguars last year and that was the equivalent of throwing your money into the fire. Nick Foles takes over as quarterback after a magical run in Philadelphia. Foles, however, has yet to show any ability to sustain success outside of Philly and the Jaguars had to gut some key talent on defense to make his silly contract work. Let others waste their money here.

Detroit Lions - 80/1 - Nice odds if it hits, but it's still Detroit football. Head coach Matt Patricia and team are going to need more than two years to turn this team into something special, and that's even being too glass-is-half-full thinking.

Denver Broncos - 80/1 - If QB Joe Flacco is the answer, I don't want to know the question. Flacco takes over as the team's No. 1 quarterback, but he's been anything but special in recent years. Reaching for the odds payout only makes sense if the team has a chance. In this case, I'm saying there isn't one.

Honorable Mention: Or is it dishonorable in this case? The Miami Dolphins (150/1) and Washington Redskins (100/1) get honorable mention, but it should be too obvious that even with the extreme payout neither team is coming close to the playoffs - let alone the Super Bowl.
