San Diego Padres vs. St. Louis Cardinals: Projected Starting Pitchers

LHP Nick Margevicius vs. RHP Jack Flaherty

Margevicius made his MLB debut Saturday in a 3-2 loss to the Giants. The 22-year-old picked up the loss despite allowing just three hits, walking none and striking out five. The young lefty was lifted following a leadoff single in the sixth of a 0-0 game. The bullpen would let that runner score, eventually leaving the Margevicius with the L.

St. Louis' Flaherty received a no-decision in his first start of the season, yielding four runs on seven hits and one walk in 4 1/3 innings Friday in a 9-5 win at Milwaukee. He posted an 8-9 record with an impressive 3.34 ERA and 118 K's in 28 starts last year.

San Diego Padres vs. St. Louis Cardinals: By the Numbers

  • Only six current Padres have faced Flaherty, going a combined 0 for 18 with three walks. Manny Machado is 0 for 5 with three K's and one walk vs. Flaherty.
  • Cardinals 1B Paul Goldschmidt is a .312 hitter with 21 homers in 124 career games vs. the Padres.
  • Padres OF Manuel Margot owns a career .550 batting average (11 for 20) at Busch Stadium.

San Diego Padres vs. St. Louis Cardinals : Picks and Betting Tips

Moneyline: This is the strongest option of the three sports bets we cover here. The Cardinals' -174 is a bit high, but they're still a good play, especially with Flaherty on the mound. Flaherty is 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA in two career starts vs. the Padres.

Against the spread: At -1.5, +126, the Cards are worthy of a small play. The Padres are +1.5, -148.

Over/under: San Diego is 2-5 Over/Under on the season, while St. Louis is 4-1-1. The Under of 7.5, -108 is a small-unit play.
