RHP Kyle Gibson vs. RHP Jacob deGrom

Gibson was the leader for the Twins last season in both quality starts (18) and ERA (3.62). He had a rough start in his 2019 season debut, however, giving up five earned runs with just two strikeouts and two walks over 4 2/3 innings against the AL Central-rival Kansas City Royals.

deGrom hasn't allowed an earned run in 26 consecutive innings dating back to last season. A quality start Tuesday will set the MLB record for most in a row. He has a blistering 24 strikeouts with just two walks through 13 innings to start 2019.

Minnesota Twins at New York Mets: By the Numbers

  • The Twins have struck out in 20.8 percent of team plate appearances against righties this season, ranking as the 10th most disciplined rate, but they've walked in just 7.1 percent of PAs.
  • New York ranks seventh in team OPS against righties and its .432 SLG is the league's eighth-best rate.
  • The Mets have started the year just 1-2 at home, while the Twins are 3-2 on the road.
  • Minnesota lost each of the past seven head-to-head meetings dating back to 2010.

Minnesota Twins at New York Mets: Key Injuries

Twins 3B Miguel Sano could be nearing a rehab assignment for his injured heel, but he's still not expected back until next month.

Mets 3B Todd Frazier started a rehab assignment last week and is nearing a return. OF Yoenis Cespedes and 2B Jed Lowrie also remain out of the lineup with longer timelines for full recoveries.

Minnesota Twins at New York Mets: Picks and Betting Tips

Moneyline: The Mets are laying -230 with their ace on the hill. Back deGrom as he goes for an MLB-record quality start.

Against the spread: There's more value in the Mets at +102 to cover 1.5 runs. Gibson's better than he was last time out, but he's a far cry from deGrom's caliber.

Over/under: The number of 6.5 is indicative of deGrom's start, and the Twins' low projected team total. The Mets have scored seven-plus runs thrice this season but a bounce-back from Gibson should keep their bats limited as well. Take the UNDER at -116 and enjoy another gem from deGrom.
