RHP Stephen Strasburg vs. RHP Aaron Nola

Strasburg is 1-0 with a 2.84 ERA. He shut out the Mets in 6.2 innings in a 4-0 win Thursday, yielding just three hits and one walk while fanning nine. In 24 career appearances vs. Philly, the righty is 12-2 with a 2.44 ERA - he hasn't lost to the Phillies since 2015.

Nola is 1-0 with a 7.00 ERA. He pitched well in his first game of the season (1 ER, 2H, 5BB, 8K, 6 IP), a win vs. the Braves, but gave up six runs in just three innings of a 9-8 no-decision, Phillies loss to the Nats last Wednesday. For his career, Nola is 4-5 with a 4.07 ERA vs. the Nationals.

Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: By the Numbers

  • Phillies RF Bryce Harper, 0 for 3 with a walk and a strikeout Monday, hit .714 (5 for 7) with one homer and three walks in a two-game series split at Washington last week.
  • Nats 3B Anthony Rendon is a .333 hitter vs. Nola, going 11 for 33 with two homers.
  • Phillies C J.T. Realmuto is a career .346 hitter (9 for 26) vs. Strasburg with two doubles and two triples.

Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: Key Injuries

Phillies SS Trea Turner went on the 10-day IL on April 3 with a broken right index finger.

Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: Picks and Betting Tips

Moneyline: At +120, Washington is my strongest play of these three options. I'll take my chances with Strasburg on the mound. Plus, Nola struggled in his last outing vs. the Nationals. Philly is -138.

Against the spread: Washington ( +1.5, -190) is expensive, while Philadelphia ( -1.5, +160) is a good value. Play the Moneyline and avoid the Run Line, but if you must: Go for the +160.

Over/under: Washington is 6-3 O/U on the season; Philadelphia is 5-4. The Under is 8-2 in Strasburg's last 10 road games. That's good enough to make the Under of 7.5, -112 a small play.

Johnny's MLB record: 11-10 (ML 4-3, ATS 3-4, O/U 4-3)
