St. Louis Cardinals at Cincinnati Reds: Projected Starting Pitchers

RHP Miles Mikolas vs. RHP Anthony DeSclafani

Mikolas pitched to a 2.50 ERA in three starts against the Reds last season. The 2018 breakout star has gotten better over each of his three appearances in 2019 but still sports a 6.19 ERA over 16 innings. He hasn't struck out more than three batters in any one start and has allowed at least five hits each time out.

DeSclafani struck out eight and allowed just one run over five innings in his 2019 season debut but he was roughed up his second time out. Last Sunday, against the Pittsburgh Pirates, he allowed two homers and six earned runs over 4 1/3.

St. Louis Cardinals at Cincinnati Reds: By the Numbers

  • Saturday's loss dropped the Cardinals to 4-4 as favorites this season and it was the Reds' first victory of the season as underdogs.
  • St. Louis left plenty of runs on the base paths in Game 1 of the series, going just 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position as the final score came in four runs below the total.

  • Mikolas' fly ball rate has soared to 37.5 percent with most batters hitting him up the middle of the park.

St. Louis Cardinals at Cincinnati Reds: Key Injuries

There are no additional injury updates from Game 1. The Cardinals remain without RPs Brett Cecil and Luke Gregerson. The Reds are missing 2B Scooter Gennett but replacement Derek Dietrich hit one of the team's two home runs in Saturday's win.

St. Louis Cardinals at Cincinnati Reds: Picks and Betting Tips

Moneyline: The Cardinals are - 116 to split the mini two-game set in Mexico. It's tough to get a proper read on either pitcher this year but Mikolas comes with the better pedigree.

Against the spread: Five of the Cardinals' eight victories this year have been by multiple runs. It's paying +132 to back them at -1.5.

Over/under: With plenty of room to spare on yesterday's under we'll double down with Sunday's total of 10 and go UNDER again at -110.
