Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees: Projected Starting Pitchers

Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

LHP Chris Sale vs. LHP James Paxton

Sale owns a career 1.86 ERA at Yankee Stadium. The 30-year-old lefty has been going through a miserable start to the 2019 campaign, however; as he sports an ERA of 9.00 through his first 13 innings. He has been charged with the loss in each of his first three starts while striking out just 5.54 hitters per nine and issuing his worst walk rate since 2011 at 2.77. Sale's velocity is down on each of his four main pitches and he's allowing more hard contact.

Paxton has started his Yankees tenure with a 6.00 ERA through three starts and 15 innings. He's striking out 11.40 batters per nine but walking 3.60 with an inflated 1.80 homers per nine. His opponent BABIP is a staggering .436 as he's suffered from poor defensive play behind him.

Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees: Picks and Betting Tips

Moneyline: Both teams have -108 odds Tuesday, as they've been equally disappointing thus far. Side with Boston, and its two lefty killers.

Against the spread: With the elevated threat of longballs from Martinez and Bogaerts, back the Red Sox at +150 to cover -1.5.

Over/under: In what should be a battle of aces, we'll opt for the OVER on a run line of 8 with -112 odds, as both Sale and Paxton struggle in the early going.
