Milwaukee Brewers at New York Mets: Projected Starting Pitchers

RHP Chase Anderson vs. RHP Jacob deGrom

Anderson made his first start of the season last Saturday and went five scoreless innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers with five strikeouts, and one hit and two walks allowed. He had previously made five appearances out of the bullpen with 13 strikeouts against four walks and five earned runs allowed over 10 innings.

deGrom has had two consecutive highly uncharacteristic outings. After not allowing a run over two straight wins to start the year, he's given up five walks, 13 hits, and nine runs over his last nine innings. He still struck out nine over five frames his last time out, but he gave up five home runs in his past two starts.

Milwaukee Brewers at New York Mets: By the Numbers

  • The Brewers are 12-14 against the spread this season and just 10-15-1 against the total. New York is 14-10 ATS and has hit the over in 15 of 24 games.
  • Milwaukee ranks 12th in team OPS against right-handed pitching, while the Mets are just 18th.

  • Brewers OF Christian Yelich is the best individual hitter in the split at an OPS of 1.335. He has 13 home runs on the year but enters the series having gone four games without a hit for the first time this season.
  • The Mets bullpen ranks 28th in baseball with a collective ERA of 5.60. Milwaukee is 19th as a group at 4.65.

Milwaukee Brewers at New York Mets: Key Injuries

Brewers 2B Mike Moustakas has been out of the lineup since last weekend due to a finger issue. RP Junior Guerra remains on the bereavement list.

Mets 2B Jed Lowrie is expected to remain away from the major league club until early May as he recovers from a knee injury. RP Justin Wilson is on the injured list and can't be activated until April 30.

Milwaukee Brewers at New York Mets: Picks and Betting Tips

Moneyline: The Mets are -170 with deGrom on the mound following his two worst outings in more than a year. Anderson overperformed in his return to the starting rotation and the home team can be backed with Milwaukee missing Moustakas, and Yelich stuck in a rut at the plate.

Against the spread: With both teams having weaker than average bullpens, this game could get wonky in the later innings. Take the better value for New York to cover -1.5 at +124 and expect deGrom to outlast Anderson and pitch deeper into the game.

Over/under: Milwaukee is just 3-9 against the total as the visitor and the Mets have topped just four of eight numbers as the hosts. Take the UNDER on 7.5 (-128) while expecting deGrom to return to normal form.
