Colorado Avalanche at San Jose Sharks: By the Numbers

  • The Sharks' five goals in Game 1 were more than the Avalanche allowed in any of five games against the Calgary Flames in the first round.
  • Seven players from San Jose notched at least one point in the victory, led by D Brent Burns' one goal and three assists.

  • It was Colorado's fourth straight loss against the Sharks this year after being swept in the regular-season series. San Jose scored five times in three of those four wins.
  • The Avalanche registered two more shots on goal in the series opener and led 59-54 in total shot attempts.

Colorado Avalanche at San Jose Sharks: Projected Goalie Starters

Philipp Grubauer vs. Martin Jones

Grubauer allowed four goals for the first time since Feb. 5. It was his worst single-game save percentage since Jan. 23, after stopping 153 of the first 163 shots he faced this postseason.

Jones has completely turned his play around following an opening round in which he was pulled from two of his first four starts. He's now won four straight games with a save percentage of .943 during the run.

Colorado Avalanche at San Jose Sharks: Key Injuries

Sharks C Joe Pavelski has not yet resumed skating since being forced from Game 7 against the Vegas Golden Knights. He's considered day-to-day. RW Joonas Donskoi has been skating, but he's unlikely to play Sunday night.

Colorado Avalanche at San Jose Sharks: NHL Best Bet

Moneyline: The Sharks have carried on just fine without the services of Pavelski (and Donskoi), but are without one of their most valuable players on offense. Back the Avalanche at +125 to even up the series with a better performance from Grubauer.

Against the spread: Colorado's getting only -225 odds to cover +1.5. It's a good indication of the moneyline being the better play for the visitors.

Over/under: With Jones playing at an elite level and Grubauer needing to be the best player for the Avalanche, roll with UNDER 6 (+105).
